Andy Darling, a native of Ohio and an alumnus of Ohio University has been employed in the field of recreation since 1989, beginning as an undergraduate student Lifeguard. He translated his love of the outdoors and recreational pursuits into a career focused on helping others to develop life-long skills, learn about themselves experientially and promoting environmental awareness.
Andy currently serves as the Director of Campus Recreation for West Virginia University. Within the field of university recreation, Andy has also served as Director of Campus Recreation at Marshall University for CENTERS, LLC, as the Adventure Education Coordinator at Kent State University and as the Director of Aquatics for Ohio University. Within the field of experiential education, group facilitation and teambuilding, Andy worked in various capacities for the Adventure Group including serving as the Director of Facilities for Alpine Towers, Intl. and as a foreman, trainer and inspector for Cornerstone Designs, Inc.
Andy has had the opportunity to consult on the design, operation and risk management aspects of new and existing facilities. In addition, he has had the privilege to share his interests and teach students in various recreational pursuits including SCUBA, sailing, kayaking, climbing, skiing, rappelling and backpacking.
Andy is a member of many organizations and professional committees including the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA), the Association of Outdoor Education and Recreation (AORE), the Association of Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) and previously served as the NIRSA State Director for West Virginia.
